US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has voiced strong support for a newly signed 10-year defense accord with India, predicting it will usher in deeper military collaboration. Fresh from meetings with senior Indian defense figures including Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Gor shared his views on Wednesday via X, painting an optimistic picture of the bilateral relationship.

In his post, Gor remarked, ‘The US and India sealed a 10-year defense agreement last year, promising to intensify our defense ties. Joint missions persist, sales negotiations advance. What a solid partnership! Appreciation to Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh for the meeting.’ These words reflect heightened momentum in Indo-US defense diplomacy.

Contextually, this follows EAM S. Jaishankar’s January 25 session with a US Congressional trio—two from the Republican side and one Democrat—covering trade, security imperatives, Indo-Pacific affairs, and Ukraine developments. Jaishankar noted on X the productivity of the dialogue and its role in sustaining vital congressional links.

Gor affirmed the talks’ value, focusing on bolstering security, economic ties, and tech exchanges. The pact emerged from Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s October 2025 encounter with US War Secretary Pete Hegseth during Malaysia’s ADMM-Plus summit.

The Indian Defense Ministry’s statement hailed the 2025 framework as a transformative blueprint, aligning visions and policies for sustained defense synergy over the decade. Both sides applauded progress in joint endeavors and recommitted to expansive, reciprocal cooperation.

Hegseth stressed India’s primacy in US defense priorities, aligning on goals for a free Indo-Pacific. Efforts continue via military exercises, intel collaboration, partnerships with strategic allies, industry linkages, S&T initiatives, and formal mechanisms.

Looking forward, this agreement positions India and the US as key pillars in regional stability, with potential ripple effects on international security frameworks amid evolving geopolitical landscapes.
