Road safety takes center stage in Uttar Pradesh as the Transport Department wages a fierce battle against illegal parking amid the January Road Safety Month. Spanning the entire month, this province-wide mega-campaign targets dangerous practices on expressways, national and state highways, and other vital routes that contribute to fatal accidents.
Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh revealed that 117 strategic holding areas have been pinpointed to offer secure parking alternatives. These zones counter the perils of shoulder parking, where stranded vehicles blindside fast-moving traffic, sparking catastrophic crashes. Teams are rigorously enforcing zero-tolerance: roads must stay clear, with vehicles towed to holding spots and violators facing heavy fines or seizures.
Impressive results already: over 4,949 inspections from January 1-27 led to 3,488 challans, 55 impoundments, and 1,847 crane removals, drastically improving traffic flow. Parallel awareness drives engage NCC volunteers, Scout Guides, and local youth, equipping them to champion road rules in their communities.
Singh affirmed the department’s resolve—blending education with iron-fisted action to safeguard every commuter. As the campaign persists, Uttar Pradesh drivers can expect cleaner roads and fewer tragedies, marking a new era of disciplined mobility.
