As the world reels under the impact of the novel coronavirus disease, Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to India’s immediate neighbours to come together in the fight against the pandemic.
In a tweet, PM Modi on Friday proposed a video conference between all SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nations. “I would like to propose that the leadership of SAARC nations chalk out a strong strategy to fight the coronavirus. We could discuss, via video conferencing, ways to keep our citizens healthy. Together, we can set an example to the world, and contribute to a healthier planet.”
PM Modi has revived the SAARC after not engaging with the grouping at the highest level ever since the terrorists attacks by Pakistan in 2016.
All SAARC nations, including Pakistan, have responded positively to the idea, hailing it as a welcome step at a time when the new coronavirus, Sars-CoV-2, has infected 138,000 people globally and killed over 5,000. Here’s what they said on Twitter.
