The Mumbai Police Crime Branch, probing the Television Rating Points (TRP) rip-off, through which information channels allegedly paid cash to extend their TRP, is now increasing the scope of the probe to incorporate common leisure channels (GEC) and sports activities channels.
The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Crime Branch, which on Monday filed a second chargesheet within the case towards three individuals, together with two high executives of Republic Media, stated that “around 12 to 13 GECs and at least three sports channels” are underneath its scanner.
The supplementary chargesheet, which bumped into round 3,600 pages, was submitted earlier than the metropolitan Justice of the Peace courtroom towards Republic Media Network chief government officer (CEO) Vikas Khanchandani, former BARC chief working officer (COO) Romil Ramgarhia and former BARC CEO Partho Das.
The police have named Republic COO Priya Mukherjee, chief monetary officer Shiva Sundaraman and others, together with “other related relevant persons of Republic TV”, as wished accused. Republic media editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami has not been named within the chargesheet.
