Let down by Kerala HC, state strikes SC towards CBI probe

KOCHI: In the case regarding the alleged irregularities within the Wadakkanchery Life Mission challenge, the state authorities on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court looking for to quash the Kerala High Court order dismissing the petitions filed by the Life Mission CEO and Unitac managing director Santhosh Eappen. The petitions in HC had sought to quash the FIR registered by the CBI.

The authorities submitted that provisions below the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) can’t be invoked towards it and that the CBI investigation is an abuse of the method of legislation. A vigilance enquiry is on with respect to allegations below the Prevention of Corruption Act. 

The Special Leave Petition filed by the state submitted that the Single Judge had not referred to the rivalry that Life Mission or its officers can’t be introduced below FCRA offences. The authorities had no position within the settlement between UAE Red Crescent, a charitable organisation, and the 2 building corporations Unitac and Sane Ventures, the petition mentioned. The CBI registered the FIR with mala fide intention,  guided by political and extraneous concerns, the petition added.
