M&M was the highest gainer within the Sensex pack, rallying round 6 per cent, adopted by SBI, ITC, NTPC, Bharti Airtel and ONGC.

Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai and Hong Kong ended with losses, whereas Seoul and Tokyo had been within the optimistic territory.
