Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain on Wednesday held discussions with district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) to assessment preparedness for the West Bengal Assembly elections. Elections to the 295-member Assembly are due in April-May.
According to a senior official of Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) workplace within the state, Jain interacted with senior cops, DMs and SPs of central and southern elements of the state within the first half of the day. In the second half, Jain met the DMs and SPs of north Bengal districts.
It was learnt that Jain, who’s on a two-day go to to the state, has directed Election Commission officers to take sturdy motion if complaints are raised towards officers on ballot obligation. Sources mentioned choices equivalent to removing of these officers from ballot obligation should be explored if there’s a lapse of their efficiency. It was additionally learnt that Jain has requested officers to make sure legislation and order throughout elections and participation of individuals in exercising their franchise.
