Marnus Labuschagne’s 108 was the cornerstone of Australia’s 274 for five at stumps on the opening day of fourth and closing Test towards India right here on Friday.
The hosts have been lowered to 17 for two after opting to bat on a bouncy and batting wicket however recovered later, thanks primarily to Labuschagne.
At stumps, captain Tim Paine and Cameron Green have been batting on 38 and 28 respectively.
Labuschagne’s 204-ball knock had 9 boundaries. He was dropped on 37 by Ajinkya Rahane off the bowling of Navdeep Saini.
The Australians scored runs at a good clip within the second session after they have been 65 for two at lunch, with Labuschagne going nice weapons. The hosts added 89 runs from 27 overs and misplaced only one wicket in that session.
But India made a comeback within the closing session, with debutant T Natarajan eliminating Labuschagne and Matthew Wade (45) within the house of two overs after the duo had stitched 113 runs for the fourth wicket.
The different debutant Washington Sundar removed the damaging Steve Smith (36) for his first Test wicket.
