BERHAMPUR: A former chairman of Beguniapada block in Ganjam district was shot lifeless by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday.
Police sources stated that 5 miscreants got here in a automobile and allegedly opened hearth at BJD chief Debaraj Sahu (53) at Sumandal Chhack when he was discussing along with his followers at a tea store. Sahu died on the spot.
“Five bullets pierced his body. Before anyone could think of anything, the killers fled the spot. The body has been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is on,” stated a police official.
Sahu was the chairman of the Beguniapada block between 2007 and 2012. He was energetic in politics for the previous 20 years.
Though the rationale behind the killing has not been ascertained but, police suspected it might be a fallout of previous enmity. Locals, nevertheless, alleged that Sahu’s rival group may need killed him to settle political scores.
Meanwhile, a automobile, suspected used within the crime, has been reportedly detained close to Banapur in Khurda district. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the killers.
This is the third political homicide within the State within the final month. Earlier, a senior BJP chief and his affiliate of the Mahanga space within the Cuttack district have been brutally killed on January 2.
