Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had been sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States on Wednesday in a ceremony that was in contrast to any the nation has witnessed earlier than. Under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic and the current siege on Capitol Hill, the ceremony occurred underneath the watchful eye of almost 250,000 National Guard troopers and with out the same old cheering crowds gathered alongside the National Mall.
“Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation,” Biden mentioned in his inaugural handle. He spoke moments after Harris made historical past by changing into the primary feminine, black and Indian American Vice President in US historical past.
Donald Trump didn’t attend the ceremony, making him the nation’s first president to skip his successor’s inauguration in over a century.
