The cap on the variety of home flights that Indian airways are permitted to function will stay at 80 per cent of their pre-COVID ranges until March 31 or until the summer time schedule begins, mentioned the Civil Aviation Ministry on Thursday. The ministry had set the 80 per cent restrict on December 3, 2020, with out specifying until what date it could stay in place.
The summer time schedule begins on the finish of March for all of the airways. Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approves each the schedules – summer time and winter – of all of the airways.
“As per the prevailing situation of COVID-19, the central government…directs the order dated December 3, 2020, shall remain in force till 2359 hrs on March 31, 2021 or till the date of commencement of summer schedule 2021, whichever is earlier or until further orders,” the ministry’s order mentioned.
The ministry had resumed scheduled home passenger companies from May 25, 2020, after a niche of two months because of the coronavirus lockdown. However, the airways have been allowed to function no more than 33 per cent of their pre-COVID home flights.
On June 26, this was elevated to 45 per cent and on September 2, it was additional elevated to 60 per cent. On November 11, it was elevated to 70 per cent. On December, it was elevated to 80 per cent.
