Toolkit case: Disha Ravi despatched to 3-day judicial custody

A Delhi court docket on Friday despatched local weather activist Disha Ravi, arrested within the toolkit case, to three-day judicial custody.
Producing Ravi earlier than the Patiala House court docket, the Delhi Police had sought her custody, saying she wanted to be confronted with co-accused within the case.
Appearing on behalf of the police, public prosecutor instructed the court docket that in interrogation, Ravi shifted the blame on co-accused Shantanu and Nikita. Ravi must be confronted with Shantanu when he joins the probe on February 22, and that’s the reason the police wants her in custody for 3 days, the prosecutor reasoned.

According to the police, Nikita Jacob, her affiliate Shantanu and Ravi had created the toolkit on farmers’ protest which was shared by local weather activist Greta Thunberg on social media. Disha had then despatched the “toolkit” to Thunberg through Telegram app.

Earlier immediately, the Delhi High Court, whereas ruling on a petition filed by local weather activist Disha Ravi, mentioned the Delhi Police can be entitled to conduct press briefings as long as no rights of the petitioner had been violated. Ravi had moved the court docket looking for path to restrain the police from leaking to the media any probe materials in relation to the FIR lodged towards her within the ‘toolkit’ case.

The High Court mentioned the editors of reports channels should train correct editorial management so the investigation by the police just isn’t hampered.
“The media houses shall ensure that the broadcasts/telecasts by them are from verifiable and authentic sources. The editorial teams shall ensure that only verified content is broadcasted,” the court docket mentioned. “While a journalist cannot be asked to reveal the source, it needs to be ensured that the source ought to be authentic and verifiable,” it added.
