The majority of mayor and chairperson posts in municipal companies and municipalities in Andhra Pradesh, the place the ruling YSRCP just lately swept the polls, have gone to girls and representatives from backward sections.

Of the elected chairpersons and mayors, 78 per cent belong to Dalit and backward communities. The three large municipal companies of Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati have gotten girls mayors. Wasim Saleem has been elected as mayor of Anantapur Municipal Corporation.
