The three-tier polls had been contested on 58,194 seats of Gram Pradhans, 75,808 Kshetra Panchayat members and three,051 Jila Panchayat ward members. These members would elect 826 Kshetra Panchayat heads and 75 District Panchayat heads.
Out of 40 seats every of Jila Panchayat ward members in Ayodhya and Varanasi, BJP-backed candidates ended up with lower than 10 in each. SP stated that its candidates had gained 15 seats in Varanasi.
