THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One fisherman died and one other went lacking after 4 boats capsized close to Vizhinjam harbour on Tuesday evening.
The boats had ventured into the ocean from numerous fishing hamlets within the metropolis regardless of a ban placed on place by the administration. The mishap occurred when the fishermen tried to return to Vizhinjam harbour as they discovered it unimaginable to fish within the tough sea.
The boats capsized when it tried to enter the mouth of the harbour. There have been 17 fishermen within the boats and 4 of them swam to security, whereas eight have been rescued by the Coast Guard and Coastal Police.

The deceased fisherman has been recognized as Davidson, a resident of Poonthura. The lacking fisherman was recognized as Shevariyar of Vizhinjam.
Coastal Police Elias P George mentioned the heavy rains accompanied by robust wind had made the rescue operations troublesome.
“The sea was very rough. It was even difficult for the Coast Guard’s bigger boat to move beyond the mouth of the harbour. The rescue operation took place in darkness and the only option we had was go use commando torches,” he mentioned.
The sea was so violent that even the tug deployed for rescue work discovered it troublesome to navigate. It was the daring operation collectively launched by the Coast Guard and the Coastal Police that saved lives. Equally worthwhile was the service of 12 coastal wardens, who’ve been a part of the Coastal Police.
The Coast Guard has deployed its boat Abhinav and a dornier plane to find the lacking fisherman.
