KOCHI: The Lakshadweep administration has rejected the appliance of eight Left MPs in search of entry allow to the islands, citing that their go to will “certainly disturb” the calm and peaceable ambiance there.
The lawmakers are Elamaram Kareem, V Sivadasan, Binoy Viswam, MV Shreyams Kumar, Ok Somaprasad, John Brittas (Rajya Sabha) and Lok Sabha MPs Thomas Chazhikadan and AM Ariff.
Two days in the past, the administration had rejected the appliance of Congress MPs Hibi Eden and TN Prathapan in search of entry into Lakshadweep, citing the identical causes.
In his order issued on Monday, Lakshadweep collector Asker Ali stated the go to of parliamentarians to the islands “for political activities will certainly disturb the calm and peaceful atmosphere in the islands and it will be against the interest of the general public, public order and security of the Union Territory”.
Lakshadweep has been witnessing a collection of protests by residents for the previous few weeks in opposition to Administrator Praful Khoda Patels determination to implement reform measures within the islands. The Save Lakshadweep Forum (SLF), a platform of protesters, has alleged that the measures had been being applied with out taking individuals of islands into confidence.
Accusing the administration of going forward with the “anti-people reform measures” within the islands, the SLF has stated they’d proceed their protest until such measures are withdrawn.
