Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Mumbai Zone stated it has detected GST evasion of Rs 40.5 crore on fee earned by cryptocurrency change WazirX. The tax division recovered Rs 49.2 crore from the corporate as GST dues plus curiosity and taxes on Thursday night.
“Officers of CGST Mumbai East comm’te have detected GST Evasion of Rs 40.5 Cr. on commission of Wazir X Crypto Currency & recovered Rs 49.2 Cr. in cash as GST, interest & Penalty today on 30.12.2021 from Zanmai Labs Pvt. Ltd,” CGST Mumbai Zone stated in a tweet. The oblique tax division has contended that that WazirX issued its personal cryptocurrency, WRX cash, however didn’t pay the relevant 18 per cent GST on these cash. “That being said, we strongly believe that regulatory clarity is the need of the hour for the Indian crypto industry. It will also provide us with more clarity on taxation so that we can work in sync with the lawmakers, and continue to be a responsible industry player,” the particular person added.
The agency is charging fee on every transaction in cryptocurrency from purchaser and vendor each. However, the speed of fee is completely different for each the transactions. The transaction in rupee attracts the fee of 0.2 per cent and transaction in WRX attracts the fee of 0.1 per cent, the Finance Ministry stated.
