BERHAMPUR/ASKA: In one more incident of post-poll violence in Ganjam, a newly-elected ward member was chased down the road by a bunch of armed miscreants and brutally hacked to dying in Kendupadar village below Aska block right here on Sunday night time. Sources stated the assault was a fallout of a dispute over bursting of crackers throughout procession for block chairperson election. On Sunday, Addl SP (Ganjam) BK Mallick, Bhanjanagar SDPO SS Mishra together with a scientific staff and sniffer canine reached the village for investigation.
Gangapur IIC D Gamang stated the deceased’s physique was handed over to his household after post-mortem. “Police have detained 21 persons who are being interrogated. We have deployed armed police in the village to prevent any further clash,” the IIC added.
In a separate incident, supporters of a newly-elected sarpanch ransacked the panchayat workplace and set furnishings on hearth in Motabadi below Buguda block.
Sources stated after the election to naib-sarpanch publish, a quarrel broke out between supporters of the previous and new sarpanch of Motabadi. On Sunday, former sarpanch Nirmala Nayak lodged a grievance with native police on this connection. Ganjam has witnessed over a dozen of incidents of poll-related violence in February leading to accidents to fifteen individuals.
