MUMBAI: NCP chief Eknath Khadse on Thursday appeared earlier than the Colaba police right here to file his assertion as a witness within the case registered towards senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla for alleged unlawful tapping of politicians’ telephones, an official stated.
Khadse reached the Colaba police station in south Mumbai round 11 am, the place his assertion is being recorded by a police inspector-rank officer, he stated.
The FIR towards Shukla was registered on the Colaba police station in March beneath the Indian Telegraph Act and related sections of the Indian Penal Code, following a criticism by senior police officer, who accused her of getting put the telephone numbers of Khadse, a former BJP chief, and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut beneath surveillance.
The alleged unlawful telephone tapping had taken place when Shukla headed the State Intelligence Department (SID), police have stated.
As per the criticism, Khadse’s telephone was allegedly tapped twice in 2019, when he was with the BJP.
He joined the NCP in October 2020. “Apart from Khadse, the phone of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut was also tapped during the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government (in November 2019),” the police official stated.
Based on the criticism lodged by Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Branch), a case was registered towards Shukla, he stated.
“As investigation into the case is on, the Colaba police had known as Khadse to file his assertion as a witness within the case.
Accordingly, the NCP chief visited the police station, the place his assertion is being recorded,” he stated.
Shukla is presently on central deputation and posted as further director normal of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Hyderabad.
