Former Pakistan Minister of Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan was injured in a police crackdown on protesters throughout the agitation towards the federal government on Wednesday, May 26.
The ‘lengthy march’ or agitation was known as by Imran Khan, who was ousted because the Prime Minister of Pakistan in April. Khan had urged his supporters to assemble at Islamabad’s D-Chowk for a ‘peaceful’ protest rally to demand contemporary elections.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief sustained bruises on his physique and head. Taking to Twitter, Omar Ayub Khan wrote: Do no matter you need, however you may’t cease us. The Punjab Police fired tear fuel shells at us whereas we have been clearing the Burhan Bridge. They threw stones, lathi charged us. I used to be injured throughout the lathi cost. We have been unarmed.”
“If they assume that they will cease Imran Khan and the Azadi march, they’re sadly mistaken. The folks do not wish to be influenced by overseas powers,” the former economic minister said.
Imran Khan, who was ousted last month in a confidence vote, has been leading rallies across the country, blaming the United States for conspiring to topple his government.
Earlier, leading a convoy of supporters, Imran Khan called the incumbent Pakistan government a “group of thieves”. He termed them ‘imported government’ and called them the most corrupt people in the country.
As Imran Khan reached Islamabad, clashes broke out and police arrested hundreds of PTI workers and some of its leaders to stop them from joining the protest.
Pakistani TV channels showed the police firing teargas and beating up PTI supporters in the Punjab province. Several women and children were reportedly injured in the police firing in Lahore’s Liberty Chowk area.
The coalition government headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to stop Khan’s supporters from pouring into the city, calling the rally an attempt to divide the nation and promote chaos.
Imran Khan has given an ultimatum to the Pakistan Prime Minister to dissolve the government and announce fresh elections. I am giving you six days, he said.
“If you don’t do it after six days, I will return,” Khan added.
