NEW DELHI: Congress MPs and leaders sat on a ‘Satyagraha’ at Jantar Mantar right here on Sunday in solidarity with the youths protesting the Centre’s newly introduced Agnipath scheme for recruitment within the armed forces.
Congress leaders and supporters criticised the BJP-led central authorities and mentioned that the Agnipath scheme will not be useful for the nation’s youth and in addition jeopardises nationwide safety.
Congress basic secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and occasion leaders Jai Ram Ramesh, Rajiv Shukla, Sachin Pilot, Salman Khurshid and Alka Lamba took half within the ‘Satyagraha’.
“The scheme should be rolled back,” Pilot advised PTI on the sidelines of the ‘Satyagraha’. Appealing to the protesting youths to not resort to violence, he mentioned, “Protesting the scheme is their right but it should be done in a peaceful way. There should be no violence.”

Later, the federal government prolonged the higher age restrict to 23 years for recruitment in 2022.
