NEW DELHI: Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha’s title has emerged because the consensus presidential candidate of 13 opposition events, together with the Congress, the TMC and the Samajwadi Party, which met right here on Tuesday to debate the problem.
Opposition leaders, who gathered on the Parliament annexe for the assembly convened by NCP chief Sharad Pawar to resolve on a consensus candidate for the presidential election, agreed on Sinha’s title, they stated.
Sinha’s title got here up after Pawar, Gopalkrishna Gandhi and Farooq Abdullah opted out of the race.
The events that attended the assembly embody the Congress, NCP, TMC, CPI, CPI-M, Samajwadi Party, National Conference, AIMIM, RJD and AIUDF.

Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge and Jairam Ramesh, TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury and CPI’s D Raja have been amongst those that participated within the assembly.
Five regional events thought of non-aligned – TRS, BJD, AAP, SAD and YSRCP — stayed away.
