The Pakistan authorities on Thursday appointed former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Aftab Sultan as the top of the anti-corruption bureau.
Sultan would head the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as its chairman rather than retired Justice Javed Iqbal who had stepped down on June 2.
“The federal government is pleased to appoint Aftab Sultan as chairman NAB after consultation between the leader of the House and the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, for a non-extendable period of three years with effect from the date he assumes the charge of his office,” according to an official notification.
The appointment was made after the federal cabinet had approved Sultan’s nomination, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah tweeted.
“He is a person of impeccable integrity having a formidable previous file. We are hopeful that he’ll be capable of steer the accountability drive with none partisanship,” the minister mentioned.
Sultan was from the Police Service of Pakistan and rose to the very best 22 grade in his service. He served because the IB chief from June 2013 to April 2018 earlier than his retirement.
His new job is very difficult as NAB has turn into controversial below the chairmanship of his predecessor. His job could be to revive confidence of the plenty within the impartiality of the anti-corruption watchdog and eradicate sleaze from the nation.
