Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s directorial enterprise Dobaaraa, starring Taapsee Pannu within the lead, will open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 12.
Penned by Nihit Bhave, the thriller drama is the Hindi remake of the 2018 Spanish film Mirage.
Kashyap and Pannu can be attending the competition scheduled to be held within the Victorian capital from August 12-20.
The director stated he’s excited to showcase his movie on the gala.
“I have previously been to IFFM and have first-hand seen the unison with which Indian films and film from the subcontinent are celebrated and showcased with much vigour. ‘Dobaaraa’ is a special film for me as a filmmaker and I’m looking forward to showcasing it on this platform,” Kashyap stated in a press release.
IFFM competition director, Mitu Bhowmik Lange stated they’re pleased to showcase among the most interesting abilities of Indian cinema by Dobaaraa on the competition and hope that the viewers warms as much as the film.
“At IFFM, we intention at offering a standard platform for filmmakers from throughout the globe to showcase their expertise and put forth the excellence of cinema from throughout. The opening movie of our most important occasion is Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dobaaraa’.
“Being a fan of his work since silk route, I always look forward to his films, and this one was highly anticipated by me because of Taapsee as well, as I admire her work equally,” Lange stated.
The movie marks Kashyap and Pannu’s third collaboration after the 2018 hit Manmarziyaan and Saand Ki Aankh (2019), on which he served as producer. The upcoming function additionally reunites Pannu and Pavail Gulati after their 2020’s critically-acclaimed movie Thappad.
Dobaaraa is collectively produced by Ektaa Kapoor’s Cult Movies, a brand new division underneath Balaji Telefilms, and Sunir Kheterpal and Gaurav Bose’s banner Athena. It is scheduled to be launched worldwide on August 19.
