FIR in opposition to Sanjay Raut on grievance of girl witness in cash laundering case

MUMBAI: City police on Sunday registered a First Information Report (FIR) in opposition to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on the cost of insulting the modesty of a lady on the grievance lodged by a witness in a cash laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate claiming she was threatened.

The grievance was lodged at Vakola police station by the witness, Swapna Patkar, a police official stated on Sunday evening.

Patkar had approached the police lately claiming she was given rape and homicide risk in a typed paper, which was inserted in a newspaper delivered to her on July 15, he stated.

Recently, an audio clip through which a male voice might be heard threatening a lady utilizing foul language went viral.

On Saturday, a non-cognisable (NC) case was registered beneath part 507 (Criminal intimidation by an nameless communication) of the Indian Penal Code, which was transformed into an FIR on Sunday, the official stated.

Police have invoked sections 504 (insult with intent to impress breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for prison intimidation), and 509 (desiring to insult the modesty of a lady) of the IPC in opposition to Raut.

Meanwhile, Patkar on Sunday registered her assertion with the police, the official stated, including that she was offered safety as requested by her.

Earlier within the day, the ED carried out a search on the residence of Raut in reference to the cash laundering case linked to the Patra Chawl land ‘rip-off’ and he was taken to the ED workplace in south Mumbai.
