KOLKATA: Former training minister of West Bengal Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee had been despatched to 14 days in judicial custody by a particular courtroom in Kolkata on Friday within the SSC rip-off case.
Special PMLA courtroom decide Jibon Kumar Sadhu granted 14 days’ judicial remand of Chatterjee and Mukherjee on a prayer by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The courtroom rejected a bail prayer of the previous minister and directed that Chatterjee and Mukherjee be produced once more on August 18 when the matter will likely be heard once more.
Chatterjee and Mukherjee have been in ED’s remand since their arrest on July 23 in reference to its probe into the cash path in unlawful recruitments finished by the School Service Commission (SSC) for West Bengal government-sponsored and aided colleges.
The ED has claimed that it recovered Rs 49.80 crore in money, jewelry and gold bars from residences owned by Mukherjee, in addition to paperwork of properties and an organization in joint holding.
The duo is dealing with costs underneath the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
