Athlete Eldhose Paul reckoned that Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal-winning efficiency within the Tokyo Olympics final 12 months has modified the mentality of Indian athletes. Paul, on Tuesday, August 9, obtained a heat welcome on the Delhi Airport after the Indian contingent returned from Birmingham following their Commonwealth Games 2022 marketing campaign.
The Indian athletes gained as many as eight medals, together with one gold, 4 silver and three bronze. Paul gained the gold medal within the last of the lads’s triple bounce on Sunday, August 7. Paul mentioned that collaborating within the World Athletics Championships helped the Indians an entire lot.
“I am happy that the national anthem was playing and the first two athletes were from India. I felt proud. We were already preparing for CWG and Asian Games. The World Championships gave us an experience that benefitted us. Neeraj Chopra’s gold (in Tokyo 2020 Olympics) changed our mentality,” Paul was quoted as saying to PTI.
Neeraj missed the CWG 2022 after he sustained an injury just before the start of the CWG. He was in decent form after he won the silver medal in the men’s javelin in the world championships.
Paul felt that the Indian athletes have raised the bar to a significant extent and are capable of achieving greater heights in the future.
“Earlier we had set some limitations for us. But now, Indians are capable of doing something magical. We will have to keep working hard and breaking limits set by us,” he added.
Paul gained the gold after abandoning his countryman, Abdulla Aboobacker Narangolintevid, who bagged the silver medal. On his third try, Paul pulled off his greatest bounce of 17.03 m and that was sufficient for him to clinch gold.
