Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid on Wednesday introduced the restoration of full diplomatic ties with Turkey. The announcement follows after years of strained relations between the 2 Mediterranean nations.
“Following my conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Israel and Turkey are returning ambassadors and consuls general. The renewal of relations with Turkey is an important asset for regional stability and economically very important for the citizens of Israel. We will continue to act and strengthen Israel’s international status in the world,” PM Yair Lapid stated on Wednesday.
In a sequence of tweets, the Israeli PM introduced the 2 nations’ resolution to return to full diplomatic illustration.
“Following the conclusions reached during my visit to Ankara with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuolu and following my conversation with Turkish President Erdogan and in light of the positive developments in Israel-Turkey relations over the past year, the two countries decided to return to full diplomatic representation,” he tweeted.
PM Yair Lapid stated, “Last night, the director general of Israel, Alon Ushpiz, spoke with the Turkish deputy ambassador, Sadat Onal, and the two concluded the matter. It was decided to re-raise the level of relations between Israel and Turkey to full diplomatic representation and to return the ambassadors and consuls general of both countries.”
“The restoration of diplomatic relations is a continuation of the positive trend in the development of relations in the past year, since the visit of President Isaac Herzog to Ankara, and the mutual visits of the foreign ministers to Jerusalem and Ankara. Upgrading relations will contribute to deepening the relationship between the nations, to increasing economic, trade and tourism ties, and to strengthening regional stability,” Israel’s PM Yair Lapid stated.
