RAIPUR: The Income Tax Department on Wednesday performed raids at a number of areas linked to some businessmen in Chhattisgarh, police officers mentioned.
The searches are underway since early this morning in several districts together with Raipur and Raigarh.
Police officers in these districts confirmed that the IT groups assisted by the Central police drive are current on the premises, together with places of work, of some metal and coal merchants and civil contractors.
The nature of the motion being carried out by the I-T division is just not but clear, they mentioned.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel advised reporters on the Raipur airport that he had already predicted raids by the Income Tax and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
“I had said (that raids will happen) now ED will also follow them,” Baghel mentioned when requested concerning the motion by the IT division.
Last week, Baghel had mentioned his “well-wishers” knowledgeable him that Chhattisgarh will quickly see raids by the ED and IT as a result of MLAs of the ruling UPA coalition from neighbouring Jharkhand have been staying at a resort close to Raipur.
The legislators of the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition had stayed within the resort for six days earlier than they have been flown again to Ranchi on Sunday.
Commenting on the raids, Chhattisgarh Congress communication wing’s chief Sushil Anand Shukla alleged the Modi authorities has been misusing the Central probe companies.
“There are reports that raids are being carried out by I-T at the premises of some businessmen. The way the Modi government is misusing Central investigation agencies, a slogan ‘kednra sarkar ke teen jamai (sons-in-law), ED, IT, and CBI’ has become common among people,” he mentioned.
Shukla alleged the Modi authorities has misused the Central companies in opposition to its political opponents a lot within the final eight years that even when I-T conducts raids as a part of the routine investigation it’s also seen as a politically motivated train.
In June-July this yr, the I-T division raided a number of locations in Chhattisgarh together with the premises of coal dealer Suryakant Tiwari and the home of a authorities official posted on the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
