ED stops Abhishek Banerjee’s relative from flying overseas; points summons

NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir was on Saturday night stopped by the ED on the Kolkata airport from flying overseas and was handed over a summons to affix the investigation in a cash laundering case, official sources stated.

Gambhir had reached the airport to take a flight to Bangkok departing round 9 PM.

The sources stated on Sunday that Gambhir was denied immigration clearance on the idea of a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued in opposition to her by the federal probe company.

She was stopped by the immigration authorities and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was knowledgeable following which they reached the airport, spoke to her and denied her permission to journey, they stated.

Gambhir has not been questioned by the ED on this case until now.

The CBI had earlier questioned her within the stated case.
