CHANDIGARH: The central authorities has authorised the creation of a weapon system department for the officers of the Indian Air Force, which might put it aside Rs 3,400 crore in flying coaching, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari stated right here on Saturday.
This is the primary time since Independence {that a} new operational department is being created, Chaudhari stated in his speech right here on the event of ninetieth anniversary celebrations of the IAF.
“On this historic occasion, it is my privilege to announce that the government has approved the creation of a weapon system branch for the officers in the IAF. This is the first time since Independence that a new operational branch is being created,” he stated.
The weapon system department will basically man the specialised streams of surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air-missiles, remotely piloted plane, and weapon system operators in twin and multi-crew plane, he stated.
Creation of this department would end in financial savings of over Rs 3,400 crore because of the decreased expenditure on flying coaching, the IAF chief stated.
A ceremonial parade was held on the air drive station right here Saturday morning on the event.
Chaudhari inspected the parade, which was adopted by a march-past.
Air-Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Air Command, Air Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran was amongst senior IAF officers current on the event.
