By India Today Web Desk: To retain or to not retain Kane Williamson appears to be the query for Indian Premier League franchise SunRisers Hyderabad forward of the ultimate day of retentions on 15 November. All groups have been requested to submit their trades and retentions by 5:30 PM IST on Tuesday, 14 November forward of the mini auctions, set to happen in December, later thi yr.
Speaking on a Star Sports present, former SRH head coach Tom Moody has mentioned that the group ought to give it thought on the matter of their captain.
“It’s an interesting one for SunRisers, because when you commit at the beginning of a big auction to retain a player of the caliber of Kane Williamson at 14 crores, you would think that they are thinking about the long term. They’re thinking about the bigger picture. But clearly, he’s had a disastrous campaign in the last four months in T20 cricket, certainly not up to his standards,” Moody said on Game Plan.
Acknowledging Williamson’s quality as a leader, Moody said that the player was highly respected in IPL and in global cricket, but Rs 14 crore was not a small sum of money.
“We know his quality as a leader. He’s a highly respected leader in the IPL and globally. So, it just depends on how much weight they put on that leadership. So, whether they release him or not. To me, 14 crores is a lot of money for any player,” Moody mentioned.
The SRH captain appears to have been previous his prolific days, and has not been in a position to regain his type after an extended bout of elbow harm that compelled him into common breaks within the final two years. Williamson had a horrible camaign within the T20 World Cup 2022 the place his group was knocked out within the semi-finals.
