GUWAHATI: A bus carrying pilgrims collided head-on with a stationary truck in Assam on Monday morning, killing three folks and injuring 14 others.
The mishap occurred on a nationwide freeway at Dharamtul within the Morigaon district.
The pilgrims, all from Assam, have been returning to Guwahati from Parashuram Kund after a holy dip into the Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh on the event of “Makar Sankranti” on Sunday, the police stated.
“One passenger died on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment,” a police officer stated.
The injured have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, Morigaon. Later, some have been shifted to Guwahati after their situation had deteriorated.
The mishap was suspected to have been prompted on account of excessive foggy situations.
Assam has been experiencing low visibility within the morning hours for the previous fortnight. The temperature dipped significantly in the course of the interval.
