By India Today Web Desk: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce that the inaugural ladies’s IPL bids surpassed the bids from males’s IPL franchises in 2008, forward of the league’s inaugural season. The Board has accepted franchises for the 5 groups within the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL), with a complete bid worth of Rs 4,669 crore.
“Today is a historic day in cricket as the bidding for teams of the inaugural #WPL broke the records of the inaugural Men’s IPL in 2008! Congratulations to the winners as we garnered Rs.4669.99 Cr in the total bid,” tweeted BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

The 5 cities collaborating within the inaugural Women’s Premier League are Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Lucknow. Adani Group, India’s main enterprise conglomerate, acquired the Ahmedabad franchise by its sports activities enterprise Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd. Indiawin Sports Pvt Lt paid INR 912.99 crores for the Mumbai franchise. Similarly, the Royal Challengers group, which owns Bengaluru’s males’s group, received the bid for the town within the ladies’s version of the T20 league, spending INR 901 crores.
