Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Karnataka and Bengal are in a fairly sturdy place of their matches towards Uttarakhand and Jharkhand respectively.

By India Today Web Desk: Karnataka are in a commanding place after the shut of play on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 quarterfinals. After opting to subject first, they bowled Uttarakhand out for 116 in 55.4 overs. Right-arm medium pacer Muralidhara Venkatesh completed with figures of 14-3-36-5.

After bowling their opposition out cheaply, Karnataka took a lead of seven runs. Ravikumar Samarth and Mayank Agarwal placed on an unbeaten 123-run stand for the opening wicket. Skipper Mayank is unbeaten on 65 off 86 with 9 fours and one six. Samarth stayed not out on 54 runs off 74 balls with seven fours.

Akash Deep picked up 4 wickets as Bengal bowled Jharkhand out for 173 after opting to subject first. Barring Kumar Suraj, who scored 89 runs off 175 balls with 10 fours, not one of the Jharkhand batters made an affect. Mukesh Kumar picked up three wickets and lent Deep help.

Ricky Bhui, within the meantime, stayed not out on 115 runs as Andhra completed the primary day with their rating at 262 for the lack of two wickets. After Andhra misplaced the early wickets of CR Gnaneshwar and Abhishek Reddy, Bhui and Kirdant Karan Shinde placed on 204 runs for the third wicket.
