By India Today Web Desk: Legendary batter Allan Border was ‘angered’ by Australia’s batting within the second Test towards India on the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. At the tip of the primary innings, the match was within the stability because the Aussies had a 1-run lead.
However, Ravindra Jadeja picked up a seven-wicket haul and helped India bowl the visiting workforce out for 113 in 31.1 overs within the second innings. Border reckoned that the Aussie batters panicked and it led to their downfall.
“I’m angry about the way they went about it today. It was panicky, frenetic sort of batting … nobody got in there to stem the flow with some good defensive cricket. They were all just getting out playing sweep shot, reverse sweep to just about every ball,” Border was quoted as saying on Fox Sports.
“You can’t get away with that on that sort of track. You’ve got to have a method,” he added.
Former batter Matthew Hayden additionally termed Australia’s batting ‘disastrous’. “These are world-class players, and they’ve got everything to win and everything to lose in this session,” Hayden stated.
“They did it so well last evening in those few overs. Strong scoring rate, good defence, proactive batting. But what we’ve seen here is a disaster for Australia. They’ve gone way over the edge in terms of their aggressive play,” he acknowledged.
Only two out of the 11 Australian batters bought into double digits within the second innings. Even as Travis Head scored 43 off 46, Marnus Labuschagne notched 35 runs.
After asking India to chase 115 to win, Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy picked up three wickets, however their efforts went in useless because the hosts secured a six-wicket win.
The third Test is scheduled to get underway on March 1 on the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
