By India Today Sports Desk: England pacer Mark Wood breathed a sigh of reduction after taking a five-wicket haul for Lucknow Super Giants within the IPL 2023 match towards Delhi Capitals.
For the 33-year-old Englishman, his figures of 5/14 maintain a major that means as he made amends for his 2018 woes at Chennai Super Kings.

During the IPL 2018, Wood had a horrendous outing in CSK colors as he conceded 49 runs and remained wicketless in his four-over quota towards Mumbai Indians. Five years later, Wood returned to the IPL and picked up his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket.
“Last time I was here, I played for CSK and it didn’t go quite well. So I wanted to try to make an impact this time and I’m delighted that it’s gone well. I felt good for a little period of time actually,” Wood mentioned after LSG beat DC by 50 runs in IPL 2023.
“You could see the dew on the grass and it affected me. I fall even at the best of times. I’m just pleased that I managed to get some rhythm in and take some wickets. We played a practice match and played at night time when it’s been like this.”
Wood dented Delhi Capitals’ 194-run chase, eradicating Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh and Sarfaraz Khan in fast succession. The England pacer collected two extra wickets – Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya – within the remaining over, guiding LSG to a giant win.
Wood additionally credited LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel for serving to him together with his plans and preparations.
“At training, you don’t have the intensity that you have during a match. KL (Rahul) tried to keep things simple for me. The plan and preparation, Morne Morkel has been really good with me, just try to do similar with what I do for England. I was trying to keep my strides short because it was so wet. I feel at ease doing that charging in and letting it fly.”
