Former Australia coach Justin Langer revealed that Steve Waugh counselled India batter Ajinkya Rahnae forward of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
While commentating on the third day of the India vs. Australia World Test Championship closing for Star Sports, Langer described how he felt when Steve Waugh referred to as to inform him that he had been teaching Rahane.
“Before the series started Steve Waugh, my hero, he rang me and said I was going to be transparent. I wanna be honest I’m having some conversations with Rahane…doing a bit of mentoring him leading to that series,” Langer stated on air.
“Not Steve Waugh, the iceman and we saw that calmness in Rahane, we saw the way he played in that series and when I knew he was talking to Steve, it was red flags for me,” he added.
On Day 3, Rahane, batting at 71*, reached 5000 Test runs. This is his highest Test rating since he scored 112 on the MCG again in December 2020.
Earlier, India misplaced KS Bharat on the second ball of the day.
On day 2, India’s batting efficiency was disastrous as skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had been rapidly dismissed.
Adding to their distress, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli had been gone after low cost dismissals. Despite being below stress, seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja performed a unbelievable innings. 48 runs had been scored in 51 deliveries by the 34-year-old.
