Former Australia coach Justin Langer has joined his former teammates Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting has stepped up his confrontation with England seamer Ollie Robinson by calling him “silly.”
Robinson has been on the centerstage within the first Test the place he had a run-in with Usman Khawaja, wherein he had instructed him “f**k off, you f***ing prick” after bowling him for 141 within the first innings. In the second innings James Anderson needed to pull Robinson away from one other confrontation with Khawaja, who scored a feisty 65.
Speaking after the incident, Robinson singled out Ponting, and stated “We’ve all seen Ricky Ponting and other Aussies do the same to us, and just because the shoe is on the other foot it’s not received well.”
In his column for The Telegraph, Langer wrote Robinson was asking for hassle.
“When I woke up to the press, my eyebrows were raised at more than the Khawaja spat. I grinned, shook my head and thought ‘silly boy’. I had a pretty good idea what was going to happen next,” he wrote.
“Sledge ex-captain Ponting, the much-loved little master of Australia, and there is always going to be a backlash. You’re taking on an entire country here.”
“It’s OK to have a chat, but make sure you back it up. A send-off, a crack at a legend and a prediction of “three No 11’s” when those self same ‘bunnies’ hit the profitable runs. Junk-yard canine are inclined to bark,” he added.
Langer’s former opening companion Matthew Hayden has described Robinsin as a “forgettable cricketer”, and urged that his opinions weren’t in step with his abilities.
“He’s a fast bowler that is bowling 124kph nude nuts and he’s got a mouth from the south,” Hayden instructed SEN Radio in Australia. “Someone like him, you can just go, ‘Brother, I’m coming at ya’. Davey Warner can do that, right. He can just say, ‘You’re bowling 120′.”
Former Australia captain, Ricky Ponting additionally took goal at Robinson.
“This England cricket team hasn’t played against Australia, and they’ll find out pretty quickly what playing Ashes cricket and playing against a good Australian cricket team is all about,” Ponting stated on an ICC podcast.
“And if Robinson hasn’t learned that already after last week, then he’s a slow learner.”
