Star India off-spinner R Ashwin is about for World Cup choice after being named in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match house ODI sequence in opposition to Australia. Ashwin’s ODI comeback places him in good stead for a spot in India’s World Cup staff.
Notably, Ashwin final featured in an ODI throughout India’s tour of South Africa in January 2022 and has been out of the 50-over setup since then. Despite not being in rivalry within the lead-up to the event, he was capable of safe a spot within the T20 World Cup squads of 2021 and 2022. The 37-year-old final performed an ODI World Cup in 2015 and picked up 4 wickets within the two matches he performed within the 2011 World Cup.
“I have been playing for the last 14-15 years for Team India. I have had my great moments. I have had my fair share of failures too. But I have tattooed Indian cricket close to my heart. If they require my service even tomorrow, I will be ready and will give my 100 percent,” Ashwin stated throughout a dialog on his YouTube channel. Despite his omission from the provisional squad, India captain Rohit Sharma confused that veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stays a viable contender for India’s World Cup marketing campaign.
“As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in the line. I have been talking to him on the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute. Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He (Washington) was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop,” Rohit stated within the press convention.
Ashwin’s journey in cricket has been marked by quite a few achievements. He is the quickest Indian bowler to succeed in a number of wicket milestones in Test cricket and at present holds the best rank for a bowler in Test cricket on the ICC Player Rankings. His contributions to the Indian cricket staff have been instrumental in a number of victories, together with the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
