Roger Federer went down the reminiscence lane to the time when he performed his final aggressive match alongside Rafael Nadal within the Laver Cup 2023. The duo misplaced to the American pair of Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe in an exhilarating three-setter on Centre Court.
Federer was seen in tears, sharing emotional moments together with his spouse and others current on the venue. A yr later, he will likely be invited to the Black Court on September 22 to mark one-year anniversary of his retirement.
“For me, it’s personally completely exceeded expectations. I never thought I was going to play in Geneva … [and] obviously also a little bit nostalgic for me to retire at The O2, where I did play a lot of my matches,” Federer was quoted as saying.
Federer, who as soon as held the report of most Grand Slam singles titles, stated that younger gamers study so much from the Laver Cup by interacting with the greats of the sport, together with the likes of Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe or Novak Djokovic.
“Seeing the camaraderie, people from different countries coming together in a team, like me and Rafa or me and Novak, has been wonderful. Seeing the fun and the joy that Borg and McEnroe have brought to the teams but also how much they enjoy their roles has been great,” he acknowledged.
“Looking back at all the last editions, they’ve all been sold out, they’ve all been so much fun. What’s been, for me really important, is that the players go away with loads of information in their backpacks and they can apply it in their day-to-day practice, their day-to-day life on a tennis court and think back to the Laver Cup that they learned something from the likes of John McEnroe or Bjorn Borg, or speaking to Rafa or me or Novak or Laver,” Federer added.
On Friday, Federer is ready to flip the coin after which return for an interview with Jim Courier, who’s a former World No.1.Follow the India Today channel on WhatsApp right here.
