The crime branch team has caught seven interstate bookies who were taking online bets on cricket through the Mahadev Satta app. The bookies were taking bets through a line called Ready Book on the Mahadev Satta app. Hundreds of client IDs have been found from them.
These bookies have been sent to jail for the first time because an FIR for organised crime was registered against them under Section 112 of the Indian Penal Code. Earlier, if an FIR was registered under the Gambling Act, they were released from the police station itself, but now the new law has started tightening its grip on such bookies.
Along with the FIR against these bookies, the first FIR for organised crime was also registered in the city. Till now, no FIR was registered against any gang involved in organised crime.
There was a report of betting on cricket inside a flat located in the Municipal Corporation multi located in Mahalgaon, City Center. Crime Branch ASP Siyaz KM put Crime Branch in-charge Ajay Pawar and his team on the blockade. The Crime Branch team raided Flat No. 405. Here seven bookies were found betting online on cricket.
A proper betting call center was being operated from here. Two laptops, 11 mobiles, 10 debit cards, five cheque books, two bank passbooks, two registers and Rs 8590 were recovered from them. Online betting transactions worth lakhs were also found.

The illegal business of online betting on cricket has spread to every street of the city. Earlier, FIRs were filed under the Gambling Act, due to which the police were forced to release them from the police station itself. Now, in the new law, there is a provision for FIRs in such crimes under the section of organized crime. Therefore, the troubles of the bookies and their helpers will increase.
