Naiduniya representative, Jabalpur. The High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Bhopal-elected Congress MLA Arif Masood for not following the previous directive issued on the election petition. A single bench of Justice Vivek Agarwal has directed to deposit the fine amount in the account of NGO Boond within 10 days.
It also said that in case of non-deposit of the amount, the right to submit a written statement will also end. The next hearing on the case will be on September 6.
In the Assembly Elections-2023, Dhruv Narayan Singh, the defeated candidate from Bhopal on a BJP ticket, had filed an election petition challenging the election of Arif Masood.
Senior advocates Ajay Mishra and Pankhuri Vishwakarma argued on behalf of the petitioner. The High Court had issued a notice to Arif Masood on April 8, 2024 and asked him to submit a written statement. Advocate Pankhuri argued that despite 120 days having passed, the statement has not been submitted.
