Naiduniya representative, Indore. There is good news for Indore residents. The new railway line between Manmad and Indore has been approved. The Union Cabinet approved the 309 km project. This is a project worth 18036 crores. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday finally approved the much-awaited Indore-Manmad new railway line project under the Ministry of Railways.
The Indore-Manmad new rail line project is coming to fruition after many years. A new 309 km long rail line will be laid under the project at a cost of Rs 18 crore 36 lakh. For the first time, the rail line will pass through the tribal areas of Dhar, Khargone and Barwani.
This project will provide direct connectivity to rail services to about one thousand villages and 30 lakh population. The project will provide connectivity to 90 large units of Pithampur auto cluster and 700 small and medium industries with JNPA’s gateway port. This will also reduce the cost of goods transportation.

The new rail line will reach Manmad from Mhow via Dharampuri, Thikri, Rajpur, Sendhwa, Sirpur, Shikhandi, Dhule, Malegaon of Dhar district. 30 new railway stations will also be built in the entire project. 309 km long line will be laid. The cost will be Rs 18,036 crores. The shortest rail route will be built between Indore-Mumbai. The rail line will pass through four districts of MP. Two districts of Maharashtra included. The project will be completed in five years. More than a thousand small and big industries of Pithampur industrial area will get direct benefit. The logistics sector will benefit.
Two states will benefit from this approval
The cabinet approved the 309 km long new line project. It will work to provide the shortest rail connectivity between two major commercial centers – Mumbai and Indore. The approved project will connect the commercial centers Mumbai and Indore by the shortest rail route. Apart from this, this railway line will also connect unconnected areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. This railway line will pass through 2 districts of Maharashtra and 4 districts of Madhya Pradesh. The total cost of the project is ₹ 18,036 crore and it will be completed by 2028-29. The project will also generate direct employment for about 102 lakh man-days during construction.
What does it mean for a project to be approved
The project is in line with PM Modi’s vision of New India, which will make the people of the region “Aatmanirbhar” through comprehensive development in the region, thereby increasing their employment/self-employment opportunities. The project is an outcome of PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity, made possible through integrated planning. It will provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods and services. The project covers 6 districts of 2 states i.e. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, covering 1,000 villages and benefiting a population of about 30 lakhs. The project will boost tourism in the region by providing a shorter route connecting the western/south-western part of the country to central India. It will increase the movement of tourists to various tourist/religious places in Ujjain-Indore region including Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. The project will also provide direct connectivity to millet producing districts of Madhya Pradesh and onion producing districts of Maharashtra, facilitating its distribution in the northern and southern parts of the country. It is an essential route for transportation of commodities like agricultural products, fertilizers, containers, iron ore, steel, cement, POL etc. The capacity enhancement work will result in additional freight traffic of about 26 MTPA (million tonnes per annum).
The length of the railway line is 268 km
For this, 2200 hectares of land will also need to be acquired. Due to the delay of six years, the estimated cost of this project has increased from Rs 9.5 thousand crores to more than Rs 22 thousand crores. The total length of the Indore-Manmad railway line is 268 km.
9 tunnels will also be built
Work is going on in this from 50 km Manmad to Dhule. Now DPR is ready for laying the line from Dhule to Mhow in Indore. MP Shankar Lalwani said that solid progress has been made on Indore-Manmad rail line. With the construction of this track, connectivity between Indore, Mumbai and southern states will be easy. The line is to be laid in 218 km stretch, in which 9 tunnels will be built.
Sweets distributed and fireworks done on approval of Indore-Manmad railway line
Sendhwa/Barwani. The much-awaited Indore-Manmad railway line has finally received approval from the Centre. As soon as the news of its approval was received, people of West Nimar region were overjoyed. Fireworks were burst and sweets were distributed at many places. In Sendhwa of Barwani district too, BJP workers expressed happiness by distributing sweets.
It is worth mentioning that in this project, a railway line of 309 km length will be laid. Modi government’s cabinet has approved financial sanction of Rs. 18 thousand crores. The project will be completed in eight years.
Giving information in this regard, BJP spokesperson Sunil Agarwal said that the Indore-Manmad rail project was approved in the cabinet meeting of the Modi government. The support of all public representatives was given in the approval of this project. The demand for rail in Nimad has been raised since 1960.
For this, the issue of Indore-Manmad rail was always there in the Lok Sabha elections. After the BJP government came to power in the Centre, both the Lok Sabha MPs of the region, Gajendra Singh Patel, Rajya Sabha member Sumer Singh Solanki, Indore MP Shankar Lal Lalwani, Dhar MP and Union Minister Savitri Thakur raised the issue of rail line several times in the Parliament.
When the National President of the Scheduled Tribes Commission, Antarsingh Arya, was a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, he had raised the issue of the railway line with the then MP Sumitra Mahajan.
Today, after the Modi government approved the Indore-Manmad project, an atmosphere of joy was created in the area and BJP workers celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets at the Nagar Palika Public Relations Office.
