Nepal experienced a 4.1 magnitude earthquake on Sunday morning, prompting seismic monitoring. The quake registered at 8:13 AM IST and had a focal depth of 5 kilometers, with coordinates at 29.59°N and 80.83°E. This seismic event is not isolated, as Nepal has recorded other tremors recently. A 4.2 magnitude earthquake occurred on November 30th at a 10 km depth, and a 3.6 magnitude quake was felt on November 6th, also at 10 km depth. The shallow nature of these earthquakes is noteworthy, as they are known to transmit more energy to the surface, potentially resulting in stronger ground motion and greater impact on infrastructure. Nepal’s location atop the convergence zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates is the primary reason for its high susceptibility to earthquakes. The ongoing collision and subduction processes generate significant geological stress, leading to frequent seismic occurrences and making the region consistently vulnerable.
