New Delhi: The Atal Tunnel in Rohtang will stay closed immediately from 11 am to 12 pm for the upkeep work, stated the Lahaul Spiti Police.
The South Portal (SP) of Atal Tunnel is positioned at a distance of 25 km from Manali at an altitude of three,060 metres, whereas the North Portal (NP) of the tunnel is positioned close to village Teling, Sissu, in Lahaul Valley at an altitude of three,071 metres.
The 9.02 km lengthy tunnel, the longest freeway tunnel on the earth connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley all year long. Earlier, the valley was reduce off for about six months annually owing to heavy snowfall.
The tunnel reduces the street distance by 46 kilometres between Manali and Leh and the time by about 4 to 5 hours.
