Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday announced further loosening of Coronavirus restrictions, including allowing 40,000 stadiums to host 10,000-capacity sports stadiums from next month. This has increased the possibility of organizing the T20 World Cup in October-November.
There is also a Test series against India in Australia from December onwards. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to decide on the fate of the World Cup next month. The 16-team tournament remains skeptical due to the Kovid-19 epidemic.
After the National Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said that these changes will be implemented in events like sports matches, concerts and festivals. However, these sites will be able to fill only 25 percent seats of their capacity.
He said the states are working for rules that will allow 40,000 stadiums with a capacity to host 10,000 people from July onwards so that the MCG, SCG and Adelaide Oval will not be able to play.
Morrison said, “There needs to be a big and open space for this. It should also have seats at a reasonable distance. There will be a need to give tickets so that people understand how many people were present in that event. It will be considered in the next few weeks. For large stadiums, work will be done in collaboration with the Chief Health Officer of the state at every venue.
He said that rules are being made for these sites in collaboration with the Chief Health Officers across the country. New Zealand has announced that they have no active case of Kovid-19, Australia is also one of the least affected countries and there have been more than 7000 infections reported so far.
