Aakash Chopra Said, Rohit Sharma Can Replace Captain Virat
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra said that if Virat Kohli fails to win any big trophy in the next few years, then a change in the leadership of the Indian team can be explored.
He is often compared to Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India captain Virat Kohli. Both Virat and Rohit are captains of their respective franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that it is a good luck for the Indian team that found him the two best leaders in the form of Virat and Rohit.
In 2017, Kohli captained the Indian team in every format, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni relinquished the captaincy while Rohit Sharma led the side in Virat’s absence. Chopra said a change in the leadership of the Indian team could be explored if Kohli fails to win a major trophy in the next few years.
Aakash Chopra said in the YouTube video of Savera Pasha, ‘The Indian team is lucky. If Team India makes any change in the next 6 months or one-and-a-half years, I don’t think it will make any difference to Virat’s performance. He has reached the level from which he cannot go down. Whether he is captain or not, it is not going to matter to them.
He added, ‘Sometimes as a team you want a different direction. If you reach that level, Rohit Sharma is a readymade choice but until then, you need to keep up with Kohli, he is a good captain. ‘
India have not won any major trophies in limited overs under Kohli’s captaincy, apart from reaching the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and going into the semi-finals of the 2019 ICC World Cup. On the other hand, Rohit led the team in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup title victories, while his IPL record as captain is very good.
Chopra said, ‘There is a T20 World Cup in India too. Hope India wins it. If they don’t win, then you can start thinking that a change in leadership should be looked for. ‘
