By India Today Web Desk: Former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith reckoned that Babar received his techniques barely mistaken by giving Mohammad Nawaz the accountability to bowl the final over towards Rohit Sharma’s India within the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match.
With India needing 16 runs to win, Nawaz received the essential wickets of Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik, however no-balls, wides and free hits did not assist his trigger. In the top, the Men in Blue received previous the ending line off the final ball.
“Pakistan helped them. I am not sure about that guy (Nawaz) bowling the last over. Babar Azam might have got his tactics slightly wrong there, but he was committed to it at that point. They only had five bowlers there.
“I in all probability thought at one level he had one other all-rounder who might have contributed one or two overs, in order that he might have had luxurious along with his bowlers,” Smith was quoted as saying in the ICC review.
Smith, also one of the renowned commentators in world cricket, said that wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was ‘defensive’ while standing back from the stumps.
The veteran also said that Nawaz faltered badly in the last over after not being able to hit the right line and lengths under pressure.
“But he received caught after which they went right into a defensive means of doing it with the wicketkeeper standing again and simply defending the boundaries. When he did come up, he managed to do away with Dinesh Karthik. But they only received it mistaken, it was a really poor final over. Nawaz did not deal with the strain too effectively. He received the size mistaken, he received the path mistaken,” he acknowledged.
Pakistan will likely be trying to make amends after they face Craig Ervine’s Zimbabwe on October 27 in Perth. The Men in Green can even lock horns with the Netherlands, South Africa and Bangladesh within the Super 12.
