By India Today Web Desk: Wales’ boss Rob Page mentioned that he was pleasantly shocked by Gareth Bale’s efficiency within the FIFA World Cup 2022 match in opposition to the United States of America (USA) on Tuesday, November 22 at Al Rayyan Stadium.
In the 82nd minute of the match, Bale transformed a penalty as Wales made positive that they evaded a defeat of their Group match of the mega occasion.
Page mentioned that he was pondering of substituting Bale within the second half earlier than the latter pulled off the essential aim.
“Irrespective of what he does at club level, he manages to put the jersey on for Wales and give performances that surprise people. And he certainly surprised me today,” Page was quoted as saying to the reporters.
“I said to him on about 75 minutes, ‘Are you OK to carry on?’ And he went: ‘Yes, I’m fine.’ And then at the end of the game he said, ‘That’s why I said I’m fine.’
“He manages himself by video games, so if he had gone full tilt from the primary whistle, he most likely would have gotten to halftime. So he is very skilled and intelligent in managing his physique.”
Bale, in the meantime, was of the opinion that Wales were a tad unlucky for not being able to secure a victory against the United States. Timothy Weah scored for the USA in the 36th minute, after which Bale saved the day for Wales.
“The first half was not how we needed to play and the United States performed rather well. We performed fairly poorly however (there was a) tactical change at halftime and, yeah, (we) got here out very sturdy within the second half,” Bale said.
“The aim was precisely what we wanted. It did not matter who scored it, however we wanted it to get again within the sport. It was necessary to try this, and it gave us a foothold then to try to go and win … We have been unfortunate to not win the sport,” he said.
“It felt like we played very well in the second half. We were on top most of the game. Personally, it was great to get a goal, but like I said, the most important thing is the team scores,” Bale added.
After bagging a vital level, Wales shall be up in opposition to Iran, who confronted a 2-6 defeat by the hands of Harry Kane’s England on Monday, November 21.
